What happens during and after our first meeting?

Our solicitors are here to guide you through the process and have your best interests at heart. Rest assured that there is nothing to be anxious about in your first meeting with us. What we discuss in this meeting is strictly confidential and will stay between us unless an ethical obligation requires us to disclose this to the court (feel free to ask about this in more detail).

Look at your first meeting as an opportunity to get to know your lawyer and to tell your story. Let your lawyer know why you have reached out and what outcomes you are looking for. Take this opportunity to ask specific questions, we advise taking some time to prepare a list of questions in advance.

Our solicitors will ask you a series of questions to help understand your personal situation. Once your solicitor has heard your story, they will then explain the available avenues, process and what to expect going forward.

Your solicitor may request to take copies of documents that you have been asked to bring along. Do not worry if you have forgotten something as we can always arrange another time for you to supply any documents.

What should I prepare for our first meeting?

The preparation required for your first meeting will be depend on your individual circumstances. Our legal representatives will provide you with more information prior to your first meeting on what you should prepare in advance.

We request that you bring with you:

  • A form of identification: Either a valid Australian driver’s license, Proof of Age Card or Passport.
  • Your contact information: Your best contact number, email address, residential address and postal address.

What are your fees and payment terms?

Like many law firms we charge on a time costing basis for time spent providing you with our professional services. The rate we charge depends on the seniority and experience of the individual staff member attending to your matter.

If you engage us to act as your legal representation we will provide you with a letter of engagement accompanied by a costs agreement. Our costs agreement will  detail the scope of the expected legal work required as well as provide to you a estimate of the likely legal expenses. Usually this is performed in advance prior to any work commencing, however if your matter requires urgent work we will send this to you as soon as practicable.

We accept a range of payment methods and offer a discount to invoices paid promptly.
